When you fish Lake Taneycomo, you expect to catch rainbow trout, and a lot of them! However, one lucky angler, one of Mahoney Outdoors’ very own contributors, Payden Hays, found himself fighting a big bonus walleye below Table Rock Dam on August 13th.
We had heard stories from local guide, Duane Doty, who runs Ozark Trout Runners, that walleye can be found throwing jerkbaits. He has many pictures to prove it too. It’s just hard to believe it until you see it with your very own eyes. Well, Payden and myself are true believers now.
The walleye came just above Trophy Run. Payden was throwing a 1/16th oz marabou jig as the water was falling fast. Luckily we had the GoPro and a handycam ready to capture it all on video!
Muskie Fishing Lake Minnetonka is a popular activity for many in the area and surrounding states. Tyler and Ryan Mahoney decided to give it a try in early fall. But it’s not for the faint of heart. You need to be mentally prepared to spend hours and days before even getting an opportunity at hooking a fish. Luckily, there is a healthy Northern Pike population in the lake as well. So if you’re having a hard time on muskies, there’s always a good chance you’ll hook into a good Northern instead!
