I found this story on Outdoor Life‘s website quite a while ago. It is the story of Ray Eye’s first turkey, taken when he was nine years old. I’ve read it nearly five times now and it never gets old. It is truly moving and draws out your emotions through its entirety, including the surprising, yet joyous twist at the very end. If you find the time, give it a read because it will be well worth it. With a tale like this one, it was clearly Ray Eye’s destiny to become the turkey hunting legend he is today. I am truly honored that I will be getting to meet and hunt with him later this month near Eminence, MO.
